Responding to Gestures

In this lesson, we looked at how music and physical prompting can help your child learn to respond to gestures like waving “hello,” “come here,” and “sit down.” If your child is struggling with this, be patient and make the most of every opportunity to take them by the hand and show them how to respond.

Before you move on…

Watch your child during play and notice whether they recognize each of the gestures we discussed in the video. You’ll find a checklist in your workbook where you can tick them off. Your workbook also has a list of ways in which you can encourage them to recognize these gestures if they’re not quite there yet.
