We’ve talked about some sign language, so now let’s step back and make sure you’re not putting too much pressure on yourself and your child to learn those first simple words. It’s time to have some fun! In this lesson, I demonstrated how to repeat words over and over in a fun environment until the child starts wanting to say them. I also discussed the importance of not quizzing a child and asking them a ton of questions. We want to lower the pressure to talk as much as possibly, because pressure will sometimes make a child want to talk even less. You can do this by facilitating a creative environment for the child.
Here are some ideas for no-pressure play:
