In this video, I told you a little bit about two activities I suggest for teaching vocabulary about clothing items. The first is to use the ‘getting dressed’ routine to teach the words of the clothing items. For each item, you would use the name for that over and over again, at least five times. Once you’ve done that on three different occasions, you can give your child a chance to pick up the item when you name it. For some children, getting dressed isn’t a great time, so it works better to play dress-up with a doll or teddy bear with them.
Here are some toy suggestions that are great for working on both body parts and clothing items.
Before you move on…
Go through your checklist and tick off the clothing items your child knows. You can even add a few that you think would be useful for them to know!
